The Indian National Army trials (INA trials), which are also called the Red Fort trials, were the British Indian trial by courts-martial of a number of officers of the Indian National Army (INA) between November 1945 and May 1946, for charges variously for treason, torture, murder and abetment to murder during World War II. The first of these, and the most celebrated one, was the joint court-martial of Colonel Prem Sahgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, and Major General Shah Nawaz Khan. The three had been officers

Mr Waseem Rizvi, former Chief of UP Shia Central Waqf Board, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India seeking for scrapping of 26 verses from the Quran that allegedly "promote terrorism, violence, jihad" and were not part of the original Quran but inserted at a later stage.

As soon as the news came in the public domain, all hell broke lose. Mr Rizvi was made out to be a pariah by his own community. There are Fatwas galore against him. Some radicals have even announced bounty on his head.

* Not many of us will remember that today is the 75th anniversary of the Indian naval mutiny /uprising against the British rule /Royal Indian Naval officers(british)*. 

The prime mover of the uprising was one BC Dutt. The nerve center of the uprising was in Bombay based ships. In 1946 the civilian population of Bombay also supported it. Aruna Asaf Ali, a politician of yester years had supported the movement. The uprising continued in Bombay for 4-5days and for the first time, the blood of men in uniform and civilians was spilled in a common cause. Lest we forget

Remembered in Japan, forgotten in India........

The day was 12 November, 1948. Tokyo Trials are going on in a huge garden house on the outskirts of Tokyo, the trial of fifty-five Japanese war criminals including Japan's then Prime Minister Tojo, after losing WWII.
Of these, twenty-eight people have been identified as Class-A (crimes against peace) war criminals. If proved, the only punishment is the "death penalty".

Two days later Nehru humiliated him in Parliament. The Indian army experienced its worst ever defeat during the Indo-China conflict of 1962. This excerpt from Shiv Kunal Verma's thoroughly researched book shows how Nehru and Krishna Menon conspired to discredit General Thimayya, setting in motion a chain of events that contributed to India's rout in the Himalayas.

 After reading the Convening order 8608029/2/A (Coord) dated 25 Sep 2020 (Review of Medical cover for ESM) and 17 Jun 2019 for BOO (Examine Requirement of ECHS PCS in MH stations respectively) I noticed that both the letters are originated by Southern Command without any such requirement being indicated by any higher authority or the MoD at least in the convening orders and the word Fingeritis came to my mind and that is the genesis of the title of this piece.

India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) is unique in most aspects. No other country can boast of such a set-up.  Responsibility for India's national defence is discharged through MoD, which provides the policy framework and wherewithal to the armed forces. MoD has five Secretaries heading different departments.

1. Department of Defence (DoD). According to the Allocation of Business Rules of the government, the Defence Secretary heads DoD that is responsible for the defence of India and every part thereof, including preparation for defence and all such acts as may be conducive in times of war. In other words, he is tasked to ensure the defence of the country. Surprised? Yes, it is his responsibility and not that of the Service Chiefs, nor of the President or PM.

तब साइकिल चलाना इतना आसान नहीं था क्योंकि तब घर में साइकिल बस पापा या चाचा चलाया करते थे. 

तब साइकिल की ऊंचाई 24 इंच हुआ करती थी जो खड़े होने पर हमारे कंधे के बराबर आती थी ऐसी साइकिल से गद्दी चलाना मुनासिब नहीं होता था।

"कैंची" वो कला होती थी जहां हम साइकिल के फ़्रेम में बने त्रिकोण के बीच घुस कर दोनो पैरों को दोनो पैडल पर रख कर चलाते थे।

SECOND LIEUTENANT (2Lt)

2/Lt in army was a unique creature. Fresh from academy, in his early twenties, he thought no end of himself in terms of military knowledge and wisdom of the world. It is a different matter that he was not consulted and neither his advice or suggestions sought by any one in the battalion from a JCO to the Commanding Officer on any issue military or non military and that hurt his ego in a big way. And if 2/Lt was appointment holder in the academy the hurt was more. The only way to assuage the ego was when he passed by the troops and was saluted by the rank and file. That is the only time he had realization that he continued to remain an officer and 'all is well' a la three idiots.

G219 supply lines are 500-1000s of km. You have nothing with which to supply them in Tibet

I Landed In Siachen With The Thought – It Must Be Held At All Costs

New Delhi. 23 April 2020 . The year was 1982 and I met Col Rao the Commanding Officer of Karakoram Wing in Partapur, incidentally he was my Tac Instructor in YOs. He was busy launching a Long Range Patrol (LRP) to Siachen and I was lucky to be shown around in a MI 8 Sortie   unbelievably beautiful 76 Km long  Siachen Glacier surrounded by some of the most scenic peaks of Karakoram. When we approached Indira Col I could see the Second  Highest Peak in the World, the K2. From Indira Col I could also see the Shaksgam Valley which was ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963. The Lovely peaks of Apsara Ranges were being attempted by Foreigners, on explicit permission from Pakistan and it was to prevent this Cartographic Aggression, the Karakoram Wing of Ladakh Scouts under Col Rao was tasked to lead the LRP to Siachen. My battalion 4 KUMAON meanwhile was busy taking over the Area of Turtuk which included Chalunka and Tyakshi , the areas captured in 1971.
