Mr Waseem Rizvi, former Chief of UP Shia Central Waqf Board, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India seeking for scrapping of 26 verses from the Quran that allegedly "promote terrorism, violence, jihad" and were not part of the original Quran but inserted at a later stage.
As soon as the news came in the public domain, all hell broke lose. Mr Rizvi was made out to be a pariah by his own community. There are Fatwas galore against him. Some radicals have even announced bounty on his head.
The scale of intolerance is humongous. But the protagonists of free speech, freedom of expression and human rights are conspicuously missing. The intolerance brigade has lost its voice. Those asking questions about the existence of Shri Ram have no guts to ask questions on Quran. The Gretas', the Mia Khalifas', the Yohannas' are silent, may be they have not got their fees. Justin Trudeau and the outspoken MPs of UK parliament are dumb founded. May be, all are scared....
Whether the petition is correct or not, it is the domain of the Supreme Court to decide. But as per the democratic principles of this country, every individual has right to air his/ her grievance. We have right to free speech and freedom of expression. The petition may look to be outlandish, unusual and bizarre, but it needs to be given a patient hearing and patient understanding within the framework of Indian Constitution.
The world over, we have seen extreme violence, genocide, blood shed, killings, rapes, lootings and almost everything in the name of Islam. Country after country has been ravaged by radical Islam. If Mr Rizvi has shown the spine to ask for review of the disputed Aayats of Quran, let it be discussed. Let there be more debate, discussion and analysis.
As per one view, if these Aayats in Quran are removed or modified, it can help immensely to the world peace. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has been awarding Nobel Peace Prize for as small activities as promoting pluralistic democracy, for bringing a civil war to an end, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and to resolve the border conflict etc. Most of the past Nobel Peace Prizes have gone to big leaders who had huge resources at their command, who had huge armies at their command.
But Mr Waseem Rizvi is a commoner. He has no big resources at his command. He is as vulnerable as any person on the street. Despite all this, he has staked his own life, his reputation, his family and friends to bring in the global peace.... What a sacrifice. What a bold initiative. As per one school of thought, if the said Aayats are discussed in detail and their effect on the international peace is decoded, it may be found that most of the conflict the world-over is because of incorrect application of these Aayats in their present form.
Let this time our Supreme Court take fast track decision for a change in the important cause of humanity.
And there after I propose that Mr Waseem Rizvi be considered for the next "Nobel Peace Prize" for his stupendously great action, his personal sacrifice, effort and initiative for everlasting peace in the world.....👍
