As per our *Panchang* system, each year has a specific name? And that each name has a meaning? There are *60* names of years *(Samvatsars)*. Each name replays after 60 years. The year typically begins in *mid-April*.*

The year 2019-20 was named *'Vikari'*, that lived up to its name by being a *'illness' year!*

The recent media reports of illness of field marshal SAM Manekshaw, MC the most famous, charismatic, flamboyant and successful soldier the indian army has produced, caused anxiety to all concerned. the field marshal is well into 90s. We all hope and pray that the living legend crosses century and continue to be an icon for all serving and retired soldiers.

Though, mutual withdrawals from both the banks of Pangong Tso and Patrolling Point (PP) 17 at Gogra took place but now, everything has reached an impasse on the cold and frozen frontiers of Ladakh, for the second winter. The border incursions at PP 15 at Hotsprings, Demchok and Depsang are yet to be resolved. The Indian Army blotched-up operations at Oting in Nagaland have given a fresh clamour for the repeal of AFSPA. The deaths are highly regrettable and I can understand the anguish and sorrow of the families of victims. My heart also goes out to all those who died there including a soldier. The initial firing took place due to mistaken identity or faulty intelligence. However, more casualties occurred when the villagers attacked the army men, who had no option but to exercise their right of private defence. The next day the civil administration did not pre-empt the anger of the locals, who in hundreds again attacked an Assam Rifles Post in Mon. The post fired in self-defence and one more civilian was killed. In all, 14 civilians died, two vehicles and a building of security forces were burnt, one soldier died and a number of civilians and security personnel were admitted to hospital for injuries.

With every passing year, mourning and angry commentary on the tragedy of December 1971 increases in Pakistan. Meanwhile, celebrations of victory also become more expansive, incriminating and ostentatious in India and accusations of manslaughter and abuses of human rights are hurled at us with greater venom from Bangladesh. Add to that the façade of war crime trials in Dacca and the clamor becomes louder more sinister. In this huge racket, Indians and Bangladeshis are quite clear and single minded in their narratives. Ever since then, Indians have forcibly occupied the high moral ground, having helped Bangladeshis against West Pakistan.

UNIVERSAL INCOME TAX CALCULATOR FOR AY 2021-22

3.The calculator very much caters for various options of the individual whether a Senior Citizen or not or a Very Senior Citizen depending upon the selection of the option in the Cell shown in RED by selecting the option at the Dropdown Menu using the mouse. 

4. In addition it similarly switches between the NEW Regime or the OLD Regime based on your selection of the relevant cell shown in RED by clicking on the Dropdown Menu.  It thus entails calculations for the six options as required.

5.  The Total Income before any deductions which must include salary/pension and Income from Other Sources needs to be inserted first followed by the  total allowable deductions in the relevant cells. Click on the relevant cell and type the above figures, the default figures as seen in them will automatically be replaced by your figures.

6.  Please insert the data on Income and deductions  in the relevant RED cells on top left and select the options of OLD or NEW REGIME and that of Sr CTZ SELECTION YES, NO or VSC from drop down menus which show up at bottom right corners of the particular cell when the mouse is clicked on them. Click on your selection in the dropdown menu it will show up in the cell without any need of  typing.. As you hit   Enter you  get the results at the bottom, where it will show you the calculations of the income tax slab wise in respect of the option selected and in addition the Cess Surcharge and rebate if any. 

7.  For ease of comparison the calculator also calculates and displays the IT for NEW Regime irrespective of the calculations for OLD regime just to lend you an idea for comparison. The team in any case has also provided their recommendation for choosing between New or Old Regime for the options selected at the bottom right "Take ....... Regime" . You can them take your final decision on Regimes.

Note :- The above on line calculator caters for every option and has gone through mighty tests for various options and categories to include , regimes, cat of the payee, amount of Gross Income  and the authorised deductions. It shows instant results of over all tax including the Surcharge where applicable and the cess. 

   This PROGRAMME will be further upgraded next year based on the budget to be presented in Feb 2022.

In her book, From Kargil to the Coup, journalist Nasim Zehra calls them the Kargil clique. Cabal would be a better word to describe them because, as Zehra says, "These generals planned operation KP [Koh Paima] less as intelligent and accountable strategists [and more] as covert, unaccountable campaigners."

BATTLE OF SEHJRA - 1971

Battle of Sehjra that secured Harike Barrage

In the 1971 war, 48 Infantry Brigade gave a bloody nose to the Pakistanis in every battle, removed the threat to Harike Barrage and established supremacy over enemy troops. Pakistan's casualties were at least 70 killed, around 300 wounded and 74 prisoners of war. Large quantities of arms and ammunition were captured.

Advances in technology have drastically changed the way we live today compared to those of our ancient past. A look back at ancient civilizations can give us insight today into the very first methods of long-distance communications. In 350 BC, a Greek named Aeneas invented the hydraulic telegraph, which was a means of communicating important, fairly detailed information, quickly over long distances.
 

KUNDA - SWEET

SWEET MEMOIRS - MHOW N BELGAUM

Mhow and Belgaum are Cantonments tucked in to the cosy folds of the hillocks and enjoyed once a "status" of a "non fan station". Fans were later added by putting metal hooks and brackets on the ceiling which were high with long stems in the first place.

Another thing common between both the Cantonments is that they have the two major infantry training nodes. Those of us who trained there, are very familiar with the Kulfi wallah and the Kunda of these places respectively.

Kulfi wallah in Mhow, would come around in a rickety scooter with a bell beat and would do many rounds.
