COPS ARE NOT SOLDIERS

CONSTABLES (COPS)AND SOLDIERS
Sent by a retired Army Officer who has flown choppers for a number of years, while in the Army and later, in support of Anti-Naxal operations...
----------------------------------------------
Please forgive me for Ruffling any "Nationalist" Feathers but I am Upset at the CRPF being called variously as : "Troops" and "Soldiers"...    All these fellows serving with CPOs (Central Police Organisations)  as they are known, are *Police (Constables), and Not Military (Soldiers)*. They copy the Military in Appearance. Denigrate the Military at Every Opportunity, but they are nowhere close to being as Capable and Effective as the Military... Our Media needs to learn this difference between a soldier and a constable. Similarly theu must also know the difference between an army officer and a police officer including the so called elite Indian police Service!

Let us please stop calling them "Soldiers." They are Not Soldiers in the real sense.

As for this latest Incident of an Entire Platoon of CRPF Getting Wiped Out in Sukma... Well, Sad... And God Bless the Souls of those who lost their lives in the Ambush, But it was Inevitable.

I have been watching their Antics in Anti-Naxal Operations... ever since Jan 2010.. And as a Veteran Professional Soldier, I have No Professional Sympathy for the CRPF. They are Incompetent and are Surviving on the Largesse of their 'Enemy'.

The Area where the latest Encounter has occurred, is an Old and Recurrent site of 'Action'. It was just a matter of time before the Naxalites hit them with a Deliberate Ambush.

Indicators over the past few months were Signalling towards something like this happening this year.

As an 'Outsider', observing things and cut off from the nitty gritty details of the Operational Situation, I could Sense that something like This was going to Happen Soon.

The Blokes involved in the Operations Would Have or Should Have Sensed the same, Much More Strongly.

Anyway, the Dreaded... 1st Battalion of the "People's Liberation Group Army" has Hammered Home to the CRPF/ Security Forces... the message that they are still a Potent Force, not yet Spent & Dissipated by Surrenders and Desertions, as was generally the Impression.

Once again, I Apologise for the Un-palatable Opinion, but I insist that the Cops may please be called : 'Cops' only, Not Soldiers and Troops..!

Indian Army still Exists... Despite being Overshadowed and Overlooked by the Politician- Bureaucrat combine.

The Fear of an 'Army Coup' has led these Fools into Pushing the Indian Army into a forgotten Corner, Aided by Spineless and self Serving Military Generals.

However, I feel angry when I see the cops beginning to believe they are better than the soldiers at soldiering. Sorry for the outburst, friends.

Please forgive me, but I feel better now after venting my pent up feelings.

I donot mean to hurt any one, its my anguish at the ignorence of our country's media arm.

GOD'S GIFT

GOD SENT ME – A GIFT
                                                                        By SHRUTI DHAND
I was walking down the lane of life once with no one but my solitude. The only footsteps I could see in the sand of time were mine. I had lost my way, and there was not a soul I could cry out to! It seemed that I could never find a way out. I looked up to the heavens and cried out loud to find a solace, but my prayers never seemed to reach the right ears. All I could see around was inhospitable terrain and the hot scorching sun was filling me with pain. I was lost in a land I had never visited before! But I just kept walking because it seemed I have a destination to reach. My tears would hit the ground and just disappear in the thirsty land whose thirst never seemed to quench and I felt so exhausted as if I had been walking for ages. I don't know for how long I walked before the shadows filled my eyes and I felt the hardness of the ground on my face.

When I finally gathered the strength to open my eyes, I saw myself lying under a lone tree. I can swear it wasn't there before; maybe I didn't have the strength to notice its presence. The coolness of its shadow were healing the burns and soothing away the blisters under my feet. Later, as I continued my journey, my fatigue seemed to have miraculously been washed away. My tears still did flow from my eyes but they eased my pain, as if my eyes were a gateway for the pain within to escape. When they hit the ground it wasn't just absorbed, but a beautiful flower grew there. The barren land now had a different look; it was wearing a colourful veil. The destination seemed to be near.
I knew I reached the place when I saw god standing there waiting for me. I couldn't help but complain to him that he didn't hear my prayers and left me alone, even though he promised that he would always be besides me! He looked at me, smiled and said," Child! If I give you tough times then I always give you means to fight it. But I leave it to you to recognize it!" Before I could ask him anything he left. I looked around me trying to find the means god had mentioned. As I looked behind me I saw another set of footprints just behind mine and a few seeds. They seem to be accompanying me from a place where the tree stood. I looked up to the heavens with a doubt in my mind.
I heard a voice from above saying, " Yes child! This is what I sent for you. I sent you the shadow of caring under the tree of reassurance. When you continued your journey, you didn't feel very tired because you had these pair of legs to share your fatigue and where ever your tear fell, a seed was sown there so that the road you were on didn't hurt your delicate feet "I turned back to see again; the tree, the footprints and seeds were gone. I saw you standing besides me. I realized that he had sent me an angel, he sent me a FRIEND.

NDA - STORY - DUO FATHER & SON

Story of a NDA Cadet The Deadly Duo- Father & Son! : Zero to Hero
Jan 26th, Republic Day arrived- a day when deserving Defence Forces people get awarded for various acts of bravery and distinguished service. A few of my friends, and course mates too got the well-deserved awards.
A week later, I got a call from an unknown number. "Hello Sir! I am Vikas, can you recognise me"! It just took me two seconds to call out his surname, and he was thrilled and said "You haven't forgotten me Sir, after all these years!"…. I replied, "There are very few students from whom I have learnt so much. And you are one of them. How could I ever forget you!!

nda
The National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune
My mind went back to the year Y2K. I was posted as a Divisional Officer – called as Div-O in the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla, Pune. This Academy is known as the Cradle for Leadership where Boys become Men. Cadet Vikas, was a tiny puny second termer. During my visits to the PT and games fields, I noticed he was weak in Physical Training. Then his mid-term academic results came, I realized he was weak in Academics too. As per routine procedure, I took out the cyclostyled sheet, filled his details and addressed the letter to his Father. The letter went like this …
RELEGATION WARNING LIST
Dear Shri Vinod Kumar,
We regret to inform you that your son/ward, Academy Number xxxxx, Cdt Vikas xxxxx of xxxx Squadron has performed poorly in Academics / PT for this semester. You are hereby advised to warn your son/ ward to improve in the subjects mentioned, failing which he will be relegated on these grounds at the end of the semester.
We are hereby placing him in the Relegation Warning List"
Anyone who has been posted at the NDA would know, this was a pretty routine affair for Divisional Officers, and most of these weak cadets barring a few would always scrape through. The parents also came on hard on their children and gave the cadets a piece of their mind through their letters or telephone calls.
In this case however, things did not happen exactly the same. Instead of Vikas getting a letter, to my utter surprise and shock, I got a letter from his father instead, and it read like this…..
Dear Capt Sajan,
I have sent Vikas to National Defence Academy. My duty ended there. If he is not performing well in the Academy, then I suggest you review your own performance, because it is your responsibility to make him do the needful to pass all the subjects.
The ball was back in my court, and the father's letter made it look like, that his son, Vikas was my responsibility. So I sent him another letter. I told him that I would ensure that his son passes the Physical Training tests by putting him through extra paces. But in Academics, nothing could be done, unless his son works harder. I informed him that his son had failed in Maths and the only way to ensure that he passes out with his course, is to change his stream from Science to Social Studies. I thought I had devised a brilliant way out. The ball was sent back to his court.
Pat came his reply a week later, with the letter starting in Hindi…with these lines.
"Girte Hain Sheh-Sawar Hi Maidan-E-Jung Mein; Woh Tifl Kya Gire Jo Ghutnon Ke Bal Chala Karte Hain! (It is only those who ride a horse in the battle field who may fall; How can cowards fall who walk only on their knees).
My son has dreamt to become a pilot and by shifting his stream to Social Studies you are taking him away from his dream. Vikas may fail, but he will learn. I have handed my son over to you. Do what is required. You can kick him, kill him, but I want to see him, as an Airforce Pilot"
More than Vikas, I was highly motivated with such a father who was not willing to compromise, not ready to give up. I just prayed Vikas would imbibe his Dad's attitude.
As the days passed, I went about kicking Vikas nice and proper especially in the PT fields. I was around when the second termers had their PT classes. Ustads were instructed to give Vikas an extra boot up his back to make him do exercises to ensure he passes. My visits to the Squadron often during the 'Study Periods' always ended up in his cabin. I would ask Vikas how his academic preparations were and he always told me it was going fine. To my great relief, towards the term end, he scraped through in PT in the last attempt of the tests. Vikas had made sincere efforts to make himself stronger to clear the tests on his own. What endeared me to this guy was that despite all his difficulties, he always had a smile in his face whenever I met him.
Academy end of term mood arrived. The semester exams ended. Everyone was busy preparing for the Passing out Parade of the sixth termers. One day, I got a call from the Academic Counselor, asking me if Vikas, was my cadet. On my affirmation, he told me, to my horror that Vikas had failed in the final exams. His marks were so poor that the Maths Dept had decided to relegate him straightaway. I asked the Counselor, whether the names have been sent to the Adjutants Branch which printed the Relegation List. He said they were about to send it. I requested him to hold on for a minute. I rushed to the Sudan Block where the Maths Department was located. I ran to the HOD who was my professor at NDA many years back. I pleaded that the cadet has failed, yet he deserved a chance. If only he could recommend a retest instead of relegation, it would mean a lot to me, to the cadet and his family. The HOD relented and recommended his name for a Retest instead of Relegation. I requested the HOD to provide extra tuition for Vikas. The HOD happily agreed and allotted a Teacher. Vikas was excused from all other duties except the Drill practice in the mornings and I told him that if he had to get out alive from the Academy on term break, he better study hard. Otherwise I would skin him alive.
The tuition's helped. Vikas worked doubly hard. He passed the Maths retest and was promoted to the next semester. His Dad visited the Squadron few weeks later and met me. A fine gentleman, who could really motivate a dead corpse and make it run in no time. A man of principles and extra ordinary courage who had struggled in life, had seen the worst days of partition, and supported his entire family single-handedly. He himself wanted to join NDA, but was medically unfit with colour blindness. In the wake of the Kargil War he had motivated his son to join the Forces. Vikas was therefore a product of a powerhouse Dad, brought up with very solid principles.
Few months later I got posted out back to my Unit. And Vikas and his Dad moved into a corner of my memory, as I went ahead with life, busy with my work in my unit. Some years later, I got a letter from Vikas. This boy had kept track of me. The letter proudly announced that he stood first in the Helicopter Training School and got the Best in Flying Trophy. I was so proud of him. Few years later, I was specially invited for his wedding. His father spoke to me over telephone, very kindly and fondly about our association. My official work prevented me to attend his wedding. Over the years, I kept getting brief calls. Even that stopped for some time.
vayu-sena-medal
Vayu Sena Medal
Now after a very long time, Vikas was again on the line. He proudly announced to me that he was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal for outstanding bravery during flying in the Northeast where his act saved many passengers when his engines flamed out. I was so proud. My cadet had progressed so much ahead from his Academy days and is now blazing his path with panache. He has made his Dad proud. He has made me, his Div-O, proud.
This tiny puny guy, overcame all his weaknesses and kept working at his goal to become a pilot and, what a fine one he has become. To such an extent that he has now been recognized by the nation for his bravery. Proud of you Vikas!  May you continue to Touch the Sky with Glory!
What stood out for me here was the indomitable spirit of two made up minds who simply refused to give in to challenges until their battles were won victoriously. This is therefore dedicated to Vikas and his wonderful Dad, Shri Vinod Kumar! The Deadly Duo!
As James Allen aptly puts it ….
"You will be what You WILL to be! When the Spirit rises to Command, the Gods are ready to obey!"

ARMY IS NOT SEEKING IMPUNITY

Hold your horses: The Army is not seeking impunity

Hold your horses: The Army is not seeking impunity
Army Chief: Gen Bipin Rawat
Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat's tough statement warning trouble makers in Kashmir to desist from obstructing operations by his troops or else face the consequences has evoked expected reactions.
There was one section–and I don't want to call them intellectuals–which pays lip service to the fauj but in reality stands against everything that the army seeks to protect and defend. This group has variously dubbed the Army Chief's remark as 'intemperate statement,' 'belligerent stand,' and 'declaration of war against Kashmiri youth.' This group of people have sought to create an impression that the Army Chief has ordered his troops to kill and maim indiscriminately.
This is nothing but deliberate  distortion of an emphatic assertion by a professional entrusted with the security of the country. But more of that a little later.
However, Gen Rawat's unambiguous stand has acted as a much needed confidence booster to the troops–young officers and soldiers at the cutting edge–who were often left wondering if they were doing the right and necessary thing in combating the terrorists, many times paying with their own lives.
In the wake of elimination of Burhan Wani, a local youth-turned terrorist leader last year and the subsequent turmoil in the Kashmir valley, abetted in no small measure by the Pakistani deep state through the selfish and  self-centred separatist leaders, politics had dominated the discourse on J&K. It was conveniently forgotten that irrespective of his origin (as a Kashmiri youth), Burhan Wani was after all a terrorist whose days were numbered once he took up arms against the Indian state. His killing in an encounter with security forces should have been treated as just that–neutralisation of a terrorist. Instead, a narrative was sought to be built blaming the security forces for doing their job and doing it professionally.
Months of unrest following Burhan Wani's death often hampered the movement of security forces, disrupted their logistics chain and disturbed a well laid out security grid. The successful surgical strikes by Indian Army's special forces against terrorist launch pads located in Pak-Occupied Kashmir was preceded and followed by two setbacks for the Indian Army at Uri and Nagrota respectively.
The Army can take the setbacks in its stride and learn lessons from them but what demoralises the soldiers are the barely concealed barbs by ill-informed critics who do not have the faintest idea about the difficulties and constraints under which the troops have been operating in the unending war in J&k for over a quarter century now. Now Army in the world has maintained the relentless tempo of operations as the Indian Army has done since 1990.
It is to the credit of Indian Army leadership over the years that troops have retained the highest degree of motivation despite mounting odds.
However, the unwarranted criticism about strategy and tactics and the contempt that some of our prominent opinion makers hold against the Army had begun to affect the soldiers on the ground. A slight hesitation had started to creep in in their approach to counter-insurgency and counter-terrorists operations. Fortunately,  the Army Chief's statement would have removed any lingering doubts the soldiers may have had about the necessity of their job and their role.
At another level, the warning by the Army Chief to those hindering operations and the support extended to him by the political leadership over his stand should send the right message to those fishing in Kashmir's troubled waters.
The separatists cannot use the unsuspecting young men and women as cannon fodder for their own agenda and get away with it. The Kashmiri awam must question the separatists: How long are you going to fire from the shoulders of ordinary Kashmiris?
There have been suggestions that the Centre must reach out to the youth of Kashmir. Perhaps the time has come to do just that and ignore the usual suspects but before that the youth must begin to understand the difference between mindless protests and legitimate demands.
Politics apart, Kashmiri parents must also begin to ask the question to themselves: Why allow the young to be used as a smoke screen for political objectives?
Perhaps the stern warning that those who hamper legitimate army operations will not be spared should spur families in Kashmir to ask that question sooner than later.
So for all those who outrage against the Army Chief's statement: hold your thoughts. He is not seeking any impunity for his troops. All that he is asking for is the right of the Army to exercise its legitimate powers given under the very constitution by which you claim to swear.

The Chief has only stated that those obstructing the Legitimate military Operations would be treated as overground supporters and treated accordingly. Would the locals not take action against those hooligans who obstruct Doctors from reaching the hospital's for performing their duties to treat the civilians.

A very dispassionate and true analysis of the ground situation . The intellectual amongst politicians (far and few they may be) have to come out clean on this in National interest .
Army Chief's statement was very precise , clear and unambiguous in best interest of the National security.

I totally agree with the author and the statement of Army Chief. Targeting OGWs or overground workers is a legitimate act in counter terrorist operations. All these pseudo custodians of human rights ( yet not wanting to get on the wrong side of national sentiment), please read about actions of Pak Army in response to shrine blast, killing nearly 100 terrorists, including by using heavy Artillery. Indian Army doesn't even normally resort to use of automatic small arms. Sure the world hasn't forgotten how Sri Lanka conducted it's counter terror operations. Indian Army is professional and are not mercenaries. Don't demonize them and don't make the nation weak.

NEW DELHI: "You don't get a maroon beret, you have to earn it," this is said about all those men who aspire to join Parachute Regiment, the Army's premier airborne strike force. The September 29 surgical strike on terror launch pads+ across LoC was the latest feat of daredevilry by the men from this elite force. But the government had refused to divulge the details of the operation in which 19 Para soldiers took part.

It was only while bestowing medals to these bravehearts+ on the 68th Republic Day, the Army gave an account of the combat operation and the raw courage displayed by them in the citations of the gallantry awards, accessed by TOI. While scores of Army personnel might have been involved in the planning and execution of the cross-LoC operation, the 19 para soldiers were integral part of the surgical strike, the citations say.

One Colonel, five Majors, two Captains, one Subedar, two Naib Subedars, three Havildars, one Lance Naik and four Paratroopers of the 4th and 9th battalions of the Para Regiment took part in the surgical strike.

While Major Rohit Suri from the 4th Para was awarded a Kirti Chakra, Col Harpreet Sandhu, commanding officer of 4 Para, was honoured with a Yudh Seva Medal. The team also won four Shaurya Chakras and 13 Seva Medals. Colonel Harpreet Sandhu, who was tasked to undertake two simultaneous strikes on launch pads, was awarded a Yudh Seva Medal for formulating the strike plan and ensuring its execution flawlessly.

The Army started planning to execute the surgical strike on the terror infrastructure in PoK soon after the Uri terror attack in J&K+ in which 17 soldiers were killed, but it was awaiting an 'amavasya' (moon-less) night to execute the operation. Finally on the intervening night of September 28-29, Major Rohit Suri, heading an eight-member strike team, was tasked to carry out strikes on the terror infrastructure.

After carrying out a recce, Major Suri directed his team to engage the terrorists in the open at a launchpad. Suri and his buddy came within just 50m of the target and neutralised two terrorists. Once the terrorists in the open were killed, Major Suri noticed movement of two suspected jihadis in the nearby jungle. The movement of two terrorists was also being tracked with an UAV. Major Suri ignoring his safety intercepted the terrorists and engaged them in close fight, eliminating both of them.

Another Major was tasked to undertake close-target surveillance of the launchpads on September 27.

The officer, along with his assault group, crossed the LoC 48 hours prior to the strike and kept the target under close surveillance till the day of the strike. His team mapped the target zone, location of automatic weapons and different firing positions the strike team could use. The officer destroyed a weapon shelter, killing two terrorists. During the attack, his squad came under fire from a nearby weapon shelter. Sensing danger to his squad, the Major, who was honoured with Shaurya Chakra, crawled near the shelter and eliminated one more terrorist, silencing the gun fire.

The third Major along with his buddy closed in on a terror shelter and destroyed it, killing all jihadis sleeping inside. Thereafter, he guided other members of the strike group to safety. Major, who too was awarded Shaurya Chakra, kept his superiors posted about the progress of the operation during the strike.

The fourth Major was awarded a Sena medal for destroying an automatic weapon fortification with his grenade attack and killing two terrorists at close range.

The surgical strike was not an easy operation. The strike team came under heavy fire from terrorists. The fifth Major spotted three terrorists carrying RPG (rocket-propelled grenades), who were about to target the squad led by the fourth Major. But before the terrorists could attack, the fifth Major, unmindful of his safety, engaged the terrorists in a gunfight and neutralised the two. His buddy eliminated the third terrorist.

Though no soldier was killed in the operation, a paratrooper, who was part of the surveillance team, suffered injuries during the operation.

After spotting two terrorists who were moving dangerously towards a strike squad, the paratrooper chased them but accidentally stepped on a mine, which blew up his right foot. Unmindful of his injuries, the paratrooper engaged the terrorists and killed one of them.

ARTICLE 370 -TEMP PROVISION

A debate on Article 370 of our Constitution,  giving special status to the State of Jammu Kashmir, is going on.  Article 370 of the Constitution of India  about it  starts with , the wordings
Temporary Provisions with respect to the State of Jammu & Kashmir
Amendment to the Indian Constitution done 98 times.
To say  that  Article 370,  is something,, which is inflexible and  cannot be amended,  is to misinterpret the Constitution. Incidentally, Indian  Constitution  has been amended from 1951 to 2013 for 98 Times.  The Indian Parliament  is  Supreme,  like the British Parliament, about which, it is said that it can pass any law except to make a man a woman and vice versa.
No law or concept is eternal, including  the Constitution  unlike the Holy Books Of  Different  Religions,  for its followers.

Vote Bank And Not The Country Is the Priority of Self Assumed Contractors of Secularism
It is a different story, the  longest ruling  party has been on a spree of appeasement, and  has bent backwards,  for  vote Bank politics and   to  appear  as  the saviour of the residents of Kashmir Valley. The valley was  ethnically cleaned of the Hindus and Sikhs minorities, when a Kashmiri  was the Union Home Minister in VP Singh Government .
Nothing worth the name was done by the State Government, to an end, such activities in the valley, giving the impression,  right or wrong, that they were either totally incompetent  or were in league with the terrorists or    so called separatists
Terrorists, who Went To Pakistan Welcomed  Back By The Goverment
Before the Change of the Government in May, 2014, the Previous   Central Government,  crossed all limits of logic and common sense, in encouraging those, who  had left voluntarily to join the terrorists in Pakistan   and wanted to return to India, after two decades. But no such concession has been extended to a miniscule of numbers, who at one time were supporters of Khalistan.
Infact, the presence of Article 370, which is interpreted, as it suits politicians,  has, naturally adversely affected the complete integration of  Kashmir with the rest of India.
Uniformed Forces Left, High And Dry By  The Central Government
A week kneed Central  Government  did not even raise its  little finger, when orders were issued by the State Government,  that the Paramilitary  Central Government forces deployed in Srinagar will not carry  arms, but only Lathis. This  emboldened  terrorists , who have been killing  the uniformed officials including the local police, as well as the Sarpanches of the villages.
Who Are The Stake Holders ?
The CM of the J&K, a proxy of the former, ruling party in Central Government,
has asked as to who are the Stake Holders with whom the Central Government wants to discuss Article.  The Stake holder from India, are Common Citizens of India, who  are paying  nearly 66% budget of the State Government of about Rs.40000 Crores. By its own taxes, it does not earn, even the revenue  to pay the salary to its employees, which accounts for 48% of its budget.
Neglect of Jammu and Ladakh
Government of  India, in the past has been turning a Nelson's eye on the ongoings,  and not even conducted  a review of the spending in J&K. Obviously a  lion's share of  the Central Money,  is spent in Valley and a pittance on Jammu and Ladakh.  If media reports are to be believed ,  then  all the contracts and projects are awarded  at the dictate of the Terrorists in Kashmir valley. The least, the Government of India, should have done, which it has never done, is to check,   whether the money given to the State for development  projects has been spent properly and how much it has been spent on the regions n Jammu and Ladakh.
Sarpanches Resigned After the Killings and Threats of Terrorists
A vast majority of Sarpanches in the Valley  resigned  on the threat and actual  killings  of the terrorist. The State Government 's writ  does not  run, not even in Valley,  as it is the terrorists mouth piece, who  are called separatist, decide the schedule of strikes, excuses for closing the market and Government offices.
The State Spends The Hard Money On The Terrorists And Separatists
According to media report, the J&K State  Government  March, 2014,  offered a flight to a separatists  to New Delhi in a government helicopter on March 12, 2014, for his medical treatment . The State Government went out of the way  to help a known separatists, or a terrorists leader. Central Government has  never asked a question as to why should anybody, who is persistent supporters of the terrorists and goes against the Constitution and the laws of the country be given a royal treatment.
Home Ministry Asks The State to Review The Security of State Leaders
In a quixotic fit, the Union Home Ministry asked the J&K Government to review the security of the terrorists or separatists leaders  in March 2013. Incidentally  some of the separatist leaders have been  given the Z-security since. 2004. About 9.5 Crores of Indian Money has been spent, on those,  who propagate secession.
Union Ministry of Home Affairs added : "There are some separatist leaders in J&K who have denied the security cover so far. We will make a fresh offer to them and in case they accept it, adequate security cover would be provided to them."  What an amazing  approach, that the Anti Indian Leaders are being begged, to accept security.
Terrorists Killings And Weapon Seizures in Valley
The condition of the Valley is best described in a report of the police souvenir of J&K Police released in 2003, which  said that  there were 56,041 incidents of violence, including 10,093 explosions, 29,931 firing incidents, 5,561 arson, 763 rocket attacks, 4,597 abductions, 229 cases of hanging to death, 275 arms snatching cases and 4,592 other acts of violence from January 1990 till 2002, December. It said more than 30,000 civilians were killed during the 14 year long  terrorism.
The security forces seized 24,785 AK-type rifles, 9,387 pistols and revolvers, 58 carbines, 1,003 RPGs, 91 light machine guns and self-loading rifles, 742 rocket launchers and 2,270 rocket boosters during the same period. Besides, 6,865 kg of RDX, 47,219 grenades, 5,228 anti-personnel mines and 4,176 rockets were also seized.
After this no other data is available  in the public domain and probably has been kept secret.
India, is  perhaps the only country in the world, to provide official protection to such elements against who are against it.
. It only proves, the truth of the old age, " God save me from my friends. I can take care of my enemies ". This is the approach of the Kashmiri ruling Government, whose present Chief Minister has threatened India, like his  father, that if Article 370 is removed, Kashmir will no longer part of India. The reply given to him, from the opposing quarters was   that the State is not the fiefdom of any dynasty. His father has been now pleading for Amnesty to stone throwers on Indian Security Forces and  in a way pardon to Anti National Elements.
Unfairness Of the Government To the Muslims In The Rest Of The country
Government has been rather unfair to the Muslims from UP and other States, because it has permitted a Direct Bus Service from Srinagar to Pakistan, so that the Kashmiri Muslims in valley could interact with their relations there. There are more Muslim  family links from UP and many other States with  Pakistan. But there  is no such facility for them, except through the Pakistani Visas, which are not easy to come by. Here the fault lies with the Government of India, of the previous regimes, who had run short of the ideas as to how to deal with Anti Indian Elements and tried all kinds of " Monkey Tricks".
India belongs to all Indians, irrespective of their religions. Government of India Ministers's  should think for themselves and not on advisers in dealing with the problem. If the elections results of 2014 to India Parliament is any yard stick,  then it is clear, that the entire State has voted against ruling Party  in J&K.
However, for most politicians ,the politics is the only means of their livelihood and one cannot blame them to make wild statements, and when confronted with the facts, or either to pretend to have forgotten them or deny or say that they have been misquoted.
Who Is Communal? India Or Kashmiri Jihadis or Government
One classic Statement of a Kashmir Leader was India  cannot become communal and if India becomes communal, Kashmir will not remain with India…Kashmiris don't accept communal (people)."   If anything fundamentalism  has thriven under the present J&K government. All cinemas, beauty parlours and even singing has been banned, in valley . Burqua has been made compulsory under the orders of the terrorists, with the State Government, not even raising its little finger.
Terrorists Spread Fundamentalism
It is not enforced by the Government, but by the terrorists. All So Called Contractors  of Secularism", but actually vote seekers, have almost been wiped out in the elections.  Those who want to migrate to Pakistan, can do it straight away, as the present CM said that he will take a Bus to Pakistan from Srinagar, according to the reports. You cannot have the  best of both worlds of running with the hare and hunting with the hunter. Ambedkar to Sheikh Abdulla
It is worthwhile to quote Ambedkar, who had clearly told Sheikh. Abdullah: "You wish India should protect your borders, she should build roads in your area, she should supply you food grains, and Kashmir should get equal status as India. But Government of India should have only limited powers and Indian people should have no rights in Kashmir. To give consent to this proposal, would be a treacherous thing against the interests of India and I, as the Law Minister of India, will never do it."
Then Abdullah went to Nehru, who directed him to Gopal Swami Ayyangar, who approached Sardar Patel asking him to do something as it was a matter of prestige of Nehru, who has promised Sheikh. Abdullah.  Accordingly. Patel got it passed, as a temporary provision  when Nehru was on foreign tour.
Challenges,  Before The Present Government
It is for the Present Central  government to decide and deliver and call off the bluff, of the present J&K CM and his Father. As a post script,  and a  reminder his grand father spent over 5  years in incarnation for trying to   annexe Kashmir with Pakistan( Kashmir Conspiracy case File) when Nehru was the Prime Minister of India. It need not be apologetic about  protecting the interest of       India.

Genesis of Article 370 and its after effects
By PC Dogra, IPS (Retd)
Sheikh Abdullah used Pt. Nehru's weakness for him and his indispensability towards delivering on plebiscite to the hilt. He dictated his terms, so much so that the government and the Constituent Assembly of India had to bow to his wishes.

WHEN J&K State was attacked by the Pakistani regular forces and the tribals on October 26, 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh sought the help of India and signed an instrument of accession with India. It was similar to the one signed by the rulers of other states. However Government of India(GoI) adopted the stance that it was the people of the State of J&K acting through the Constituent Assembly to first endorse the accession to India and then determine the Constitution of the State and the jurisdiction of the Union of India. This is how Article 370 came into being. It was a temporary provision inserted till the accession was ratified by the Constituent Assembly of J&K. It was transitional in nature.

The other factor was the requirement of holding plebiscite. Security Council passed a resolution on April 21, 1948 recommending to the Government of Pakistan to withdraw tribals and Pakistani nationals from Kashmir. Subsequently GoI was to carry out a progressive withdrawl of the Indian forces to the minimum strength required for the maintenance of law and order. The resolution also envisaged the appointment of a plebiscite administrator with powers adequate to prepare and conduct the plebiscite.

It is a recorded fact of history that Pt Nehru was awfully enamoured of Sheikh Abdullah and hated Maharaja Hari Singh, the then ruler of J&K. Allan Campbell-Johnson have stated in their book Mission with Mountbatten that "Government of India took a stand before the Security Council that the present administration be transformed into a Council of Ministers under Abdullah's leadership. This Council should then convene a National Assembly elected on proportional representation. This Assembly should then elect a new government which should hold a plebiscite under United Nations control".

Sheikh Abdullah used Pt. Nehru's weakness for him and his indispensability towards delivering on plebiscite to the hilt. He dictated his terms, so much so that the government and the Constituent Assembly of India had to bow to his wishes.

Dr Karan Singh has written in his book Heir Apparent that "Maharaja deeply resented the manner in which "Jawaharlal had made his handing over the power to Sheikh, a virtual condition for extending military aid to save the State from Pakistani occupation."

Earlier respecting the terms of accession and the peculiar situation of J&K, Pt Nehru, Sardar Patel and Gopalaswamy Ayyangar, the then Minister-in-charge of Kashmir Affairs, after due agreement with Sheikh Abdullah and his colleagues approached the Constituent Assembly of India for incorporating the required provision in Article 306-A of the Constitution.

However Sheikh Abdullah backtracked and wrote to Gopalaswamy that the draft Article 306-A had not met with the approval of the Working Committee of the National Conference. Sheikh Abdullah sent an alternative draft which merely said that the provisions of the Constitution shall apply to Kashmir only in regard to the acceded subjects and that the Dominion Parliament shall be entitled to legislate in regard to Kashmir only in respect of acceded subjects. He objected to the preamble which stated that it will be short lived and that the Constituent Assembly of the State can terminate the Article and thereupon all the provisions of the Constitution would apply.

On October 16, 1949 Sardar Patel wrote to Gopalaswamy "I find that there are substantial changes over the original draft particularly in regard to the applicability of Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles of State Policy. You can yourself realise the anomaly of the State becoming part of India and at the same time not recognising these provisions. I do not at all like any change after our party has approved of the whole arrangement in the presence of Sheikh Sahib himself. Whenever Sheikh Sahib wishes to back out, he always confronts us with his duty to the people.

Sheikh Abdullah was so adamant regarding draft Article 306-A that he wrote to N Gopalaswami Ayyangar "In case I fail to hear from you within a reasonable time, I regret to say that no course is left open for us but to tender our resignation from the Constituent Assembly." His views had to be accepted and Article 370 was inserted in the Constitution as he wanted to be. It stipulated that no law enacted by the GoI would be applicable to the State of J&K until it was so approved by the State Legislature. There is a dual citizenship. Indians do not become automatically the citizens of J&K. The State has a separate Constitution and a separate flag.

This provision has been misused by the political elite of the Valley for building their empires. It is learnt that the provisions of wealth tax, urban land ceiling act and the gift tax are not made applicable under Article 370. It is a vicious strategy to keep the State aloof from the national mainstream. It militates against the very concept of one India and is a nutrient for the two nation theory.

Now let us examine the recommendations of the State Autonomy Committee constituted by the National Conference Government. It is strongly in favour of the restoration of pre-1953 status to J&K which means that:-

Central Government will have control over defense, foreign affairs and communications only.
J&K will remain out of the purview of Supreme Court of India.

Central Election Commission will have no jurisdiction over J&K.
Comptroller and Auditor General will have nothing to do with the auditing of the financial transactions of the State.
Article 370 to be made permanent.
The State will have its own President (Sadr-e-Riyasat) and the Prime Minister.
All the laws promulgated after 1953 will be repealed.
National flag will fly only on the Central Government buildings.
President cannot impose President's rule without the concurrence of the State.
Provisions of the Constitution of India relating to the All India services will not apply to J&K

Does it not lead to a practically independent J&K?
