MAJ GEN GD BAKSHI

Of late, much is being discussed about Maj. Gen. GD Bakshi having used *MC* word during a panel discussion on TV.   Who is this brave officer who dares a hoot about niceties on public platforms? 

Here is some info about Gen. Bakshi-   Here are some glimpse of his credentials:

1 ) Family Associated with erstwhile Royal family of Kashmir (Maharaja Hari Singh), a Mohilyal Brahmin with tradition of soldiering dating back to the time of Ashoka (even before that to parshuram). His community is known as "Bulldog of the borders" (and was first to engage all the invaders which tried to enter India from north west frontiers from 1000s of years, his ancestors defeated the invading Arab armies 1000s of years back, even fought the famous battle of Karbala).

2 ) His brother Capt. Raman Bakshi was "killed in action" in 1965 war (blown into 1000s of pieces) they didn't recieved his body, only few part were recieved to perform last rites.

3 ) Instead of joining IIT and fullfilling the father's wish to be IFS officer, immediately after his brother's death he joined NDA. Was alloted Air Force, though in last term of NDA he switched over to Army.

4 ) Post his commissioning from IMA, his first night of the service was spent deep inside Bangladesh, with bullets flying all around, his many freinds were "killed in action" in that war.

5 ) Post the War, and doing young officer course he was sent into volatile North east insurgency region (when things were too hot there).

6 ) From there after one peaceful postings and doing staff College in wellington(masters Strategic science), he was packed off into operation Blue star in Punjab as a Major.

7 ) In 1987 the situation in Kargil (many military ops aren't disclosed in media) was very bad, the Army was demoralized there as they have suffered the Casualties of 48 soldiers, with many others injured. Pakis were occupying heights and were targeting the convoys on the highway with ease, even moving out of the bunker seems impossible. Bakshi was promoted to LT. COLONEL and was given the command of battalion in Kargil. He turned around the situation in Kargil with himself crossing over and burning down the office of commanding officer of Baluch Regiment (pakistan army unit). The Pakistanis cried, raised white flag and left the place, never to return again. (1999 was different).

8 ) In operation IPKF (Sri Lanka) he was posted in DGMO (director general military operations) as Colonel and was among the planners of the ops. in the Island. Posting in DGMO is considered as one of the most prestigious appointments in Army.

9 ) After his stint in DGMO he was posted in Kashmir, where he did exceptional service .

10 ) Returned back to DGMO as a brigadier in Kargil war(due to his earlier experience in Kargil).

11 ) In 2000 when the situation in Kashmir was getting out of Control he was sent to the rugged mountain terrains of Kishtwar as a Brigadier, where Hindu population was targetted by Lashkar-e-Taiba, with killings an everyday phenomenon. The Hindu population started the migration towards Jammu. GD Bakshi organised his troops and went after the militant leadership in the area. Eliminated each and every Pakistani militants in that area. He killed the terrorist outfits chiefs (by burning through flame buster) and took their body and showed them to villagers and terrorist sympathisers. The Hindu population returned back , never to be targetted again. He was awarded sena medal for operations.

12 ) He was the chief of Psychological operations in Jammu & Kashmir where he looked after the propaganda and information warfare.

13 ) Later he got promoted to Maj.General (General cadre officer) and commanded the prestigious ROMEO force (those who knows it, know very well what it is) in Rajouri -Poonch area, where he destroyed the jihadi network much to the annoyance of Pakistanis and peace seeking brigade. Sadly the government at the centre was changed that time ( Congress led UPA's first tenure, 2004). By 2005 he was considered as too aggressive General to be placed too close to L.O.C (bcs it was an era of "Aman ki Asha"). He was moved to Delhi as a faculty in National Defence College (NDC), where he trained senior defense officers, senior IAS, senior IFS regarding defense and strategic matters. From there he retired in 2006.

Note : his list of medals is huge from sena medal , to PVSM, to AVSM, to VSM, special service medals and many such medals. He has seen more people die in Kashmir then any of the opposition combined have seen (imagine how does he feel when from last 6 years he is seeing the low caliber people with zero credibility blabbering everyday on television). He is author of about 40 books, with Phd in military history. So u can definitely say that he may have anger management issue but no thing other then that.
