 Ayman Mohd Rabie al-Zawahiri, born 1951, is the current leader of Al Qaeda and has pledged his support to Mullah Mansoor, the Taliban chief killed last year in Pakistan by a US drone strike. Al-Zawahiri is a wealthy Egyptian who at the age of 14 was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. He is supposedly involved in the siege of Lal Masjid in Pakistan, and also reportedly implicated in the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He was also Osama bin Laden's personal advisor and surgeon since 1986. On Osama's death in 2011, he took over as Chief of the Al Qaeda.

It was sometime in 2001. At a gathering hosted by Gomantak, the leading newspaper in Goa, I was explaining to someone the 100 year scenarios of urbanisation of Goa. These scenarios were the result of the Goa 2101 model that I had built. I had no idea someone was eavesdropping on the conversation, perhaps because of my passionate expression, or else because it was just more than a bit crazy to talk about 100 years in future when no one talked of even 100 days. Least of all did I know, that that someone was the then chief minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar.

From Section level, our training elevated to Platoon level and we were now being trained to become Platoon Commanders. The only way to end her terror was to behead her. Perseus, the Greek warrior, did this. By this act of beheading Medusa, he brought peace to Sarpedon.
On 14 August 1947, a part of the British Indian Army separated from its mother organization and became the Pakistan Army. It retained the flavor of its British creator; the parties, the spit and polish, the gin in the afternoon and whiskey in the evening, the 'hard as hobnailed leather' ethos and the drill square. Its officers were Pakistani in skin-tone but British in thinking. "Brown Sahibs" would have been an apt description.

Now I come to some of the experiences I had in Nigeria and other overseas countries.
After spending a few weeks in Onitsha, Nigeria, where my brother, Umesh, had invited us, and Basanti was offered an English-conversation-teaching job, attracting much-needed foreign exchange, I alone was on my way to India for offering my resignation and starting a new life in Nigeria. The Alitalia flight from Lagos was via Rome; the very names, Rome, Italy, Europe were thrilling. For a long time it was my ambition which was about to be fulfilled. I had spent hours under the blue sky at Sunderbani praying fervently for a trip to Europe. My wish was about to be fulfilled; I had to take the last step. It was inexplicably thrilling and exciting.             The current exercise being undertaken by the Indian Army is reportedly to make it lean and mean. Whatever the interpretation, the main gain is supposed to be savings to the tune of Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 crore annually which can be used towards modernisation. Just last year, the government appointed the Shekatkar Committee had submitted its recommendations to the MoD saying if all its recommendations are implemented, Rs 25,000 crore will be saved. Ironically, the MoD only implemented what suited the bureaucracy. Army Base Workshops (ABW) were placed directly under the MoD after being privatised and posted with civilian defence employees. In addition, Military Farms were taken over by the MoD – imported cows, infrastructure and most importantly, defence land.

I am Sangeeta, wife of your course mate Asheet Malik.  I stand here having been requested to say a few words about my journey in the Navy by none other than the prime organizer of the 35th Course golden Jubilee get-together Sartaj Sassoon.  Thank you very much Sartaj for asking me to speak. And Dubby where are you? Raise your hand please.  I must ask you to explain the reason for your suggesting my name to Sartaj and calling up and insisting that I must speak. I am totally frustrated to watch an advert by one of these Food Delivery companies where Mother and Son playing video game, son stops the game and says he is hungry, the super mom takes out mobile phone, open the App and orders food on-line and they start playing again.

Now this looks very ordinary, but think about it what culture we are getting into, the child's mind is conditioned to the thinking, if you are hungry, order online.....the food delivered to your doorstep is not just food....it is Diabetes, obesity and all other life threatening companions are made part of your life.
