1. It is fashionable and proof that You Have Arrived, to be able to say nasty things about our colleagues, senior or junior, behind the veil of Retired Veteran, freedom of speech, Right to Information and so on. If one can write about the incompetence of serving air marshals even better. It all gets published in this egroup, veterans group, Air Force group and from there by WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter across the globe. That is the glory we seek? Better to be silent and let others think you are stupid, rather than key in derogatory remarks, hit the Send button and remove doubts.
2. What a stage we have reached in our demeanor? Has retirement made so many of us downright cussed? Were we like this while in service? Indeed cribbing is our birthright, then crib, do not denigrate and abuse people who have done it better than you have. There are quite few among us who have nothing but abuses directed at one and all. There is a fatalistic streak that runs thru their writings, everyone else is awful, inefficient, corrupt, gutless, greedy, stupid, clueless. But the writers of such foul contaminating prose have no proof of their own enterprise, brilliance, courage, initiative, diligence and loyalty while wearing the uniform. What foundation do they have to make the treacherous allegations that they do? What spectrum of experience do they have to consign all else into dustbins? Will their own service records stand up to scrutiny that they are not exactly what they are accusing people of? The regularity with which their condemnation is spewed makes for poor reading and even poorer opinions about the integrity of these writers. Sad indeed. That we have such among us, and they carry on undeterred and uninterrupted as if they are shedding wisdom in its most pure form. Utter arrogance without any sense of balance or proportion.
3. Bashing the Chiefs has become a favourite pastime in Veterans Group and it sometimes spills over into this group. This is not what veterans are expected to do. Most certainly imperfections are existing, and always will, so what? And if anyone believes that these Chiefs and those before them who also recd similar condemnations from these very same veterans, have been intimidated by the falsehoods stated by the crib-masters, it is wrong. The Chiefs are doing it to the best of their capability, what they have achieved and are yet to achieve is not for me to comment, but lets be clear, Chiefs have a duty to take care of the serving personnel and those who will join in the next decade, us veterans cannot be the primary concern of service Chiefs, and should not be either. Accept that we have to be secondary rung in priority. Each of us wanted to be Priority One while in service, now as veterans we still want to be Priority 1 ?
4. I hope that this incessant abuse and unacceptable adjectives of our senior appointments and Chiefs ceases. What is proved by calling them names? The person writing such rubbish is basking in the glory of using extreme improper revilement about our own people? So much that has been written about pensions being 70% before 3rd PC is plain lies. Here are facts as examples of pay vrs pension before 3rd PC.
>>> Generals max salary was Rs 3500/. His max pension was Rs 1150/ = 32.8%
>>> Brig max salary was Rs 2400/. His max pension was Rs 1000/ = 40.1%
>>> Major max salary Rs 1750. His max pension was Rs 625/ = 35.7%

5. The amount of Post-Retirement wisdom floating in this and other groups is shocking and needs to be curbed. This is not put a blanket on Freedom to Say and Express Ideas and Views. But don't initiate false gyaan, and then perpetuate it by repetition. Do not take protection behind the thin veil of being ex-servicemen and thus can write and say whatever we want. That is not our Honour Code, what our Code says is Do It Right, Every Time, and Even When No One Is Looking. It is Philip's comment below that has caused me to write this piece.
