My brief article was published in the Hindustan Times Chandigarh on 27-04-2021.
A copy of the original piece is placed below. My sedate title "The Dog Bite" was changed to "When a Dog Bit a General and the 2/LT the Bullet". A photo copy of the piece is also attached (not very readable)..
MILITARY LEADERSHIP NEED FOR MERIT
The collapse of the Afghan National Army (ANA), the hasty withdrawal of the US and the rapid gains of Taliban in Afghanistan have major lessons for military and political leadership. ANA lost it completely due to poor motivation and training. Its leadership was too political, corrupt, and unprofessional. Lesson: Nations cannot afford poorly trained and unprofessional armed forces dabbling in politics even if well equipped. The US is facing yet another major international embarrassment. Its political and military leadership were on the same page at combat level but on vastly different pages at political level. The US is facing a political defeat rather than a military one.
THE 1962 WAR - TORN FAMILY

Mrs Neeharika Naidu
This is not a new story. This story is not one looking for sympathy or pity, as all of these days have been left far far behind. This is not a common story of the loss and desperation of a family but rather it is the story of a very brave woman's struggle with life and its vagaries, in face of a terrible calamity.
A very long long time ago, there lived two little princesses in a small mofussil town called Mhow. In those faraway days it was quiet, much quieter than now with small well-maintained houses, few cars that only the privileged owned. Life was absolutely idyllic.

It was nearing the end of the training of our first term at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehra Dun. The training was so rigorous that it was but natural for all of us to eagerly look forward to the end of the term, so that we could take a well-deserved break. The break was very essential to help us refresh and recoup ourselves so that we could complete the next leg of our training, which would only be tougher.

ARMED FORCES - STATUS MUCH BIGGER
ARMED FORCES - STATUS MUCH HIGHER THAN ANY BUREAUCRAT
( In our country, the bureaucracy still lives in the British era. It was unfortunate that Sardar Patel, the Iron Man of India did not get time before the independence to Indianise the ICS officers to be shaped into the democratic structure. After Independence the Bureaucrats managed to instil fears in the minds of the politicians that we had at that time of a military take over and got into downgrading the Armed Forces to a miserable extent, may be the status or the pay and allowances. The Nation must realise, specially after the situation in Afghanistan post 15 Aug 2021, that the Nations can disintegrate in case the Armed forces do not have the morale and will to sacrifice for the nation.)
RED FORT TRIALS - INA OFFICERS
The Indian National Army trials (INA trials), which are also called the Red Fort trials, were the British Indian trial by courts-martial of a number of officers of the Indian National Army (INA) between November 1945 and May 1946, for charges variously for treason, torture, murder and abetment to murder during World War II. In total, approximately ten courts-martial were held. The first of these, and the most celebrated one, was the joint court-martial of Colonel Prem Sahgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, and Major General Shah Nawaz Khan. The three had been officers
WASEEM RIZVI - NOBEL PRIZE
Mr Waseem Rizvi, former Chief of UP Shia Central Waqf Board, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India seeking for scrapping of 26 verses from the Quran that allegedly "promote terrorism, violence, jihad" and were not part of the original Quran but inserted at a later stage.
As soon as the news came in the public domain, all hell broke lose. Mr Rizvi was made out to be a pariah by his own community. There are Fatwas galore against him. Some radicals have even announced bounty on his head.
POOR INDIAN
Mr Pratap Bhanu Mehta, the Professor, recently quit from Ashok University in Haryana. He is of the opinion that we live in the complicated times. Yes, complicated times when a Congress ruled state is protecting a criminal shamelessly. Yes, complicated times when some Indian political parties exhort voters to vote for Pakistan but not to BJP....
I fully agree with the professor. We are not only living in the complicated times, we are living in dangerous times. We are living in violent times and in times when the evil is upset and unforgiving. The status quo has been challenged and the process of muck cleaning is leaving behind a trail of suffocating stench. The mafia has been pulled out of the comfort zone....
ASHOKA SYNDROME - AN INTERESTING ARTICLE

An interesting article by a Retd. Army Officer
In India, it's never about ideology. It is only about civilisation. And to put it on record this is why PM Modi faces a massive smear campaign from a powerful lobby. But this did not start in 2014. It started long ago, we have to go back by centuries to understand this.
India wasn't born in 1947, because unlike many other countries we got independent and were not created afresh. Therefore, what happened before 1947 is as important as what happened after 1947.

27th December 2011 would have been our forty-third wedding anniversary. But we didn't make it. We ran out of time on 22nd September. On that day I stepped into a strange new world. Everything was familiar and yet everything was different. After forty-seven magical years of being together, Tiger left. I deeply mourned his absence but I could also feel his lasting presence.

TOKYO TRIALS - 1948
Answer must be a firm "No" from most of us! Now please read on.
Must read article for every self respecting Indian.
The day was 12 November, 1948. Tokyo Trials are going on in a huge garden house on the outskirts of Tokyo, the trial of fifty-five Japanese war criminals including Japan's then Prime Minister Tojo, after losing WWII.
Of these, twenty-eight people have been identified as Class-A (crimes against peace) war criminals. If proved, the only punishment is the "death penalty".

ECHSITIS
Written by Cdr R W Pathak with inputs from Members of ECHS Oversight group
In the Navy when equipment became faulty or something went wrong we would often say the cause must be "Fingeritis".
After reading the Convening order 8608029/2/A (Coord) dated 25 Sep 2020 (Review of Medical cover for ESM) and 17 Jun 2019 for BOO (Examine Requirement of ECHS PCS in MH stations respectively) I noticed that both the letters are originated by Southern Command without any such requirement being indicated by any higher authority or the MoD at least in the convening orders and the word Fingeritis came to my mind and that is the genesis of the title of this piece.
CHINESE ATTEMPT AT BRINKMANSHIP
For the sixth month running, the Indo-China confrontation in East Ladakh is keeping the nation on tenterhooks in the midst of an increasingly difficult COVID-19 situation and feeble national economic revival reports. While the jury is still out on what exactly impelled the Chinese to undertake the Ladakh adventure and what they wanted to achieve by it, most agree that they have not been successful in their endeavours despite best efforts. However, certain aspects of the ongoing confrontation stand out, which we would do well to remember for the future.
INDIA - INDEPENDENCE AND AFTER
What is your view on the saying "Congress has looted India for 70 years?"
It isn't the looting of wealth that bothers me so much as the sheer fact that the Congress merely replaced the Brits in some ways - they just became masters of the same, broken, weak people, who were simply willing to suck up to authority. Nobody gave India confidence! This is the part that bothers me so much, especially with MK Gandhi's style of 'winning' us freedom by giving the enemy higher moral ground.

Punjabi Ignorance
We, the Punjabis historically have not been documenting our own history. The Muslim Punjabis have almost forgotten their genetic ancestry and now try to connect their gene pool to the Arab aristocracy of Sayeds and Qureshis. The Pakistan government ignorantly names its missiles after the Islamic invaders who dispossessed their ancestors from their land. The Hindu Punjabis have written off their own ancestors, warriors kings, and Gurus and relate more to the Middle-India heroes such as Rama, Krishna, and Shivaji, The Sikhs have done a better job in staying connected to their roots but their historical reach is limited just to the Sikh period. Punjab history has to be taken as a whole,Veterans
