As a single layer of graphite, it is the thinnest material (monoatom thick),

PIGGY BACK

Piggybacking The Armed Forces For Political Gains – India Elections 2019       By Jaishree Laxmikant  12 May 2019

I wish this election season would end soon. I am not anxious about who will form the next government or to know who our next Prime Minister will be. Every party has its share of wrongdoings, so called reforms and a manifesto, which may or may not see fulfillments. There is only so much we as citizens can do. Those things will eventually come to the fore at the designated time.

DYNASTY

DYNASTY: FROM STARDUST TO SAWDUST

M.J.Akbar at his best. Read it for the brilliance of its diction:

The clues lay all around us, pebbles  scattered in different corners of public discourse; or occasionally  wrapped in whispers, at the edge of the narrative rather than the main story. The reasons for victory and defeat in something as momentous as an Indian general election are far more complex than any one factor, and yet an event or an incident can become a metaphor that defines the larger story.

AMRINDER

The enigma of the Captain Captain Amarinder's armada withstood the Modi wave even as his party was decimated outside Punjab

Bhopinder Singh28 May 2019 10:05 PM

Punjab was arguably the only honourable exception to the recent decimation of Congress, and the man who defended his citadel valiantly, was the 'Maharaja' of the foremost Phulkian State, Patiala - Captain Amarinder Singh, from the 2nd Sikh Regiment. The proud former soldier and military historian, who wears his soldering lineage on his heart and sleeve, lived up to his regimental motto, 'Nischay Kar Apni Jeet Karon' (With determination, I will be triumphant).

DEGRADATION

Armed Forces are degraded of late - WHY

I am 71 years old and have no ambitions left. I have been lucky to retire as Brigadier with total service of 32 years. I am convinced my own course mates who are better than me as GCs in IMA Dehradun did not become Brigs not because of anything lacking in them. It is only luck which I had and which they did not. I was lucky to serve under very kind and magnanimous COs who over rated me and I ended up my career fairly well.

POLITICISATION

The politicisation of India's 3.5 million strong military is a fiercely debated subject today. But in this passionate and largely irresolvable argument, the uniforms' culpability in pleasing the politician is rarely, if at all dwelt upon. This is because it has become an axiom in official and media circles that the military remains sacrosanct, commits no wrong and its behaviour is unchallengeable and beyond reproach.

HANUT

Lt. Gen. HANUT SINGH- A PERSONAL TRIBUTE

           By Maroof Raza

In April this year, Lt.. General Hanut Singh ascended to the heavens. And since then, my mail box - like that of so many others in the serving and retired military fraternity – has been flooded with emails about the man, who had acquired a legendary standing in the Indian army. I cannot recall any General, other than Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw, who received the kind of adulation and respect that General Hanut has received.

By Air Chief Marshal A.Y. Tipnis (Retd) Led the IAF with distinction as its Chief during the Kargil War in 1999

The highly complex Balakot operation was planned and conducted by the IAF through outstanding team work within the service, as well as with other government agencies. A month after celebrating its 69th anniversary, the Indian Republic awakened to its strategic responsibility of protecting its citizens. An awakening that shook off the blindfold of self-delusion that had cajoled itself and its citizens into believing that destructive attacks against its people and real estate were acts of terror by extreme radical groups, and finally accepted that these were in reality acts of war, and had to be responded against as such.

A Strategic and Operational Analysis

The Indian attack on Lahore in particular and Ravi-Sutlej Corridor in general has remained the subject of too much propaganda and too little analysis. On Pakistani side the Battle for Lahore was seen as a superhuman effort while on the Indian side it exposed many glaring weaknesses in the Indian Army at unit, brigade, divisional and corps level.

On the other hand the total failure of the main Pakistani attack in Khem Karan was ignored or forgotten in the smoke screen of glory created by official propagandists who successfully shifted the entire public attention on laurels of Aziz Bhatti etc.

THE BJP PRESIDENT Amit Shah may not have been far-off the mark when he claimed that 250 terrorists were killed during the Indian Air Force’s air strike on Balakot at around 3:30 am local time on February 26th, 2019. However, Shah would never be able to provide the evidence to back his claim. Revealing the evidence would violate the charter of ‘The MOU on Geosynchronous Earth Orbit and Low Earth Orbit Optical Link’ signed between Prime Ministers Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel on July 5th, 2017 in New Delhi. This MoU permits Indian and Israeli satellites to ‘talk to each other’.

JALLIANWALA - INDIANS FIRED ON INDIANS ?

JALLIANWALA BAGH - WHY INDIANS FIRED ON INDIANS

I lived in Hong Kong for some years. One of the facts I observed was that Hong Kongers by and large do not like Indians and many of them even hate us. Whether an Indian goes on to look for a home or on the streets to buy groceries, the feeling is palpable. Many Indians I talked to said they feel it rather strongly. I had asked several people but got no satisfactory answer.

FATHER - SHORT STORY

HEART TOUCHING STORY

A story that touched my heart. A story of Service at The Feet  of The Lord -

It was getting dark.  Someone was calling from behind the locked iron gate.  Wondering who it could be I came out.  An elderly person was standing behind the gate. The clothes wrinkled and with a small bag in his hand he appeared to have travelled some distance coming here.  Looking into a small piece of paper in his hands he enquired, "Isn't this Anand, Number8, Yogananda Street, my son?"  "Yes, I am Anand and this is the address.  And you…", I mumbled

VENEZUELA - HOW IT FAILED

HOW A STATE FAILS ITSELF

Have you heard about a country called Venezuela? It is a big country. Bigger than the Indian states of UP, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Bengal and Orissa combined.. And how much is the population? Only 35 million ... .. less than the population of Delhi NCR ........ God has given everything to Venezuela. Fertile land, abundant rain, hundreds of small rivers and thousands of miles long beach.

In spite of having such fertile land and so much water, there is so much hunger in this country today that men have virtually turned into cannibals. There is nothing like farming of crops, fruits & vegetables, dairy, poultry, fishing, etc. in this country.  Even if they can't grow wheat, rice, and vegetables for such a big country, there are grazing areas millions of hectares. Does Venezuela not even have a few cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats to graze and provide meat to its starving population?

YOUR DRESS - SPEAKS OUT

YOUR TURN OUT

Worth reading for all officers who take pride in being gentlemen. The term turnout describes the manner in which a person dresses and presents himself. 'Shabby turnout produces shabby behavior' is an old military dictum.

It will be in order to recall an incident that happened at a major military training academy a few years ago. Conduct of the officers at a social function was found to be highly unacceptable. A group of inebriated officers threw beer bottles in the swimming pool and monopolized the dance floor with whiskey glasses in hands. Fearing misbehavior, all ladies walked off the floor.

PARRIKAR WALK THE TALK - A TRIBUTE

18 March 2019 2

  https://www.moneylife.in/article/how-manohar-parrikar-walked-the-talk-with-his-simplicity-and-dedication/56618.html

It was sometime in 2001. At a gathering hosted by Gomantak, the leading newspaper in Goa, I was explaining to someone the 100 year scenarios of urbanisation of Goa. These scenarios were the result of the Goa 2101 model that I had built. I had no idea someone was eavesdropping on the conversation, perhaps because of my passionate expression, or else because it was just more than a bit crazy to talk about 100 years in future when no one talked of even 100 days. Least of all did I know, that that someone was the then chief minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar.
