Amidst all this noise and din of what is happening, came across this post of the venerable Fox of 37*38 course who has just returned from the his course golden jubilee at NDA where they attended the POP of the 137th Course.
" Sir, I came back home from the GJC a happy man with the conviction (from what I saw and heard) that though NDA has grown by approx 175% in terms of infrastructure, nothing much has (CONTD) >>>>>
changed in the life of a Cdt, except that they are now many times smarter than I, then 19, or now at 70.
During the Cmdt's briefing, with delight, I learnt many surprising things. 1. NDA for several years has only 72% utilisation compared to its current 5 Bn capacity - as the Cmdt explained, they maintain strict quality control and do not allow riffraff to enter through Pashan or Khondwa gates.
2. Absolutely no plan currently to induct girls.
3. Without allowing the importance of physical training to take a back seat, Cdts are also being put under academic pressure to compulsorily qualify with a BE degree (except army Cdts who have an option to do non technical degree). He pointed out, and I saw, a batch of around 12 boys, who had passed out but were retained because they did not pass BPET. The Cmdt said that if they don't pass BPET, they will be relegated to the next course, even though they had passed out !!
4. The Cmdt assured us with a grin that in NDA there is no Ragging. He said they call it 'physical & mental toughening', 'Ragda', the same thing !!! I quite agree with his logic that life long camaraderie arises form such jostling between the boys. He also mentioned that after the end of term social, all 6th termers fall-in in Dangrees, to take it back on their chin from their juniors, a one hour exercise with great bonhomie and good cheer, and that there has been no injuries reported.
5. There is now a joint service training concept where Cdts 2-5th term go through tri service all arms trg, including firing heavy weapons, to make them more soldierly and have inter service camaraderie, a very good thing.
6. The Cmdt also rightfully (respectfully) took a pot shot, infra dig, at several ex NDA senior officers who are espousing radical opinions in media and social media, mouthing abuse of their alma mater. Jokingly, he recommended a refresher course for such officers at NDA, to come and see for themselves, before premature ejaculation on what is going on in NDA now, I whole heartedly agree with that too.
7. I was also told that IDS & 3 service HQ are seriously considering stoppage of direct entry, closure of all institutions which now facilitate such direct entry, and route all officer cadre of every service and branch (except medical) though NDA, before they are sent to respective service academies for specialist training.
8. Last but not the least, there are no bed bugs in NDA any more !!! At the end of the day, I have only praise for NDA, an unique institution without a parallel. I am proud to say I am 'ex NDA' , and kill any blighter who thoughtlessly and witlessly say anything bad/sad/critical of NDA, disrespect my alma mater even in jest, not acceptable. If one is compelled to cast aspersions, or criticise, do so 121 with the Cmdt with copy to NDA Alumni Association, rather than take to media / social media. Your opinion does matter, but in confidence to those who matter, and have the will to change the system if it is a good suggestion. NDA is a family, undivided we must stand, together we must stand, and help to see that we don't fall 😇🙏 .
