      The pay commission has done it yet again. The Army has not been equated with the IAS. Was it not expected? The problem with the Services is, we are not prepared to change or learn. I believe, the so-called pyramid is a self-created one and the problem can be overcome only if we are prepared to change. There are two clear ways out of the problem.

The exclusion of married daughters for granting identity (ID) cards to dependents of ex-servicemen in terms of guideline 5 (c) of the Guidelines is violative of Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution, the High Court of Karnataka has ruled. 

Justice M Nagaprasanna said this while directing the authorities to issue an ID card to Priyanka R Patil, the daughter of an ex-serviceman.

I was only 9.  There was pensive silence at home when days after the happy news of my dads promotion in a nationalised bank he received orders of transfer as a branch manager to a small village in Rajasthan. We were then in Ahmedabad and this also happened to be the time he was building a house next to our ancestral home.

I had seen him struggle with numbers, adding, subtracting, circling staff loans and FDs he would break and putting a question mark against a few empty spaces in the total.
